Founded in fall 2024 by Kiki Liu, Jingyi (Oliver) Teng, and Zhiheng (Gleo) Gong.
Current State Studio established its permanent event space and gallery, Space Matter (DTLA, CA), in fall 2025.
Current State Studio is dedicated to supporting a diverse range of artistic practices across all media. Through exhibitions, public programs, and cross-cultural initiatives, the organization operates internationally.
Space Matter serves as its primary venue and project space, presenting Current State Studio–led programming alongside independently produced events that are not affiliated with or sponsored by the nonprofit.
The organization fosters creative growth and community engagement through exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and studio visits. By providing platforms for artists to present their work and connect with peers and audiences, Current State Studio promotes social connection and professional development within an inclusive and dynamic environment.
Our Mission
Current State Studio supports artists at all stages of their development, both locally and internationally. Its mission is to provide emerging and established artists with meaningful opportunities that encourage artistic growth, professional advancement, and community engagement.
Through exhibitions, artist showcases, talks, panel discussions, critiques, workshops, conferences, and residencies, the organization creates a platform for artists to present their work, exchange ideas, and gain insight from peers and professionals. It also offers resources—including studio space, funding opportunities, and mentorship programs—to help artists build sustainable careers.
Beyond serving artists, Current State Studio is committed to arts education and cultural enrichment within local communities. By hosting outreach initiatives, public programs, open studios, and exhibitions, the organization bridges the gap between artists and audiences, fostering broader access to and appreciation of contemporary creative practices.
Current State Studio believes that art has the power to inspire, connect, and transform. Through collaboration, inclusivity, and resource-sharing, it cultivates an environment where artists are empowered to expand their practices, share their perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to society.
